The Fleet is currently based from the Royal Southern Yacht Club on the River Hamble, giving easy access to the Solent and the clubs facilities. The Fleet has had an active participation by other European boats, notably from Switzerland, Belgium, Germany and The Netherlands. The series welcomes and is open to all class registered boats, many of whom have been stationed for the season in the Solent.

The fleets boats have performed in both World and European Championships, and been notable in their performance in the worlds classics, such as the Rolex Fastnet & The Rolex Middle Sea Race amongst others. The Fleet has held European and World Championships in both the UK and The Netherlands and is open to all Northern European based J/111's.

Our aim is to provide a One Design Inshore Race Series whilst providing opportunities for the Fleet to participate in primarily IRC Offshore Races supported and or run by the RORC. The Fleet can provide support to each other in these more challenging environs whilst competing on an international stage. This also gives the opportunity for co-operation between the crews and owners often mixing and matching to compete and complete these challenges.

Internationally there are some 115+ boats/owners across 12+ countries. The Northern European Fleet was formed to further the interests of all J/111 owners and crew in the UK and Northern Europe.

The J/111 Class is recognised by World Sailing and as a result, is able to hold continental and world championship events, plus have a voice on the World Sailing Classes Committee.
